Head of Engineering 💩

We’re building a system that gets smarter with every family that uses it. In 3-5 years: patterns and predictions no individual expert could surface because we learned from hundreds of thousands of families. We have started with potty training: rich data, clear outcomes, real traction (50,000 users, 70% research validated efficacy). The architecture you’ll build extends to every parenting challenge. You’ll lay the technical foundation for what comes next.

What will you do?

Most apps get more users. Ours needs more users to get smarter.

  • Understand our users deeply: talk to parents, study the data. They’re stressed, kids are unpredictable, the journey has phases and setbacks.
  • Build the data foundation: capture what worked, what didn’t, when, for whom. Connect behavior to outcomes. Enable experimentation at scale.
  • Own the architecture: design systems that learn, not just features that serve.
  • Write code 40-50% of your time. Hands-on, not just directing.
  • Build the team: hire 3-5 engineers who think in systems.
  • Partner with the CEO: translate vision into technical reality.
  • Set engineering standards: code reviews, testing, documentation. The basics, done well.

What we’re looking for

Systems thinker: you see the whole picture: data flows, feedback loops, how pieces connect. You’ve built something where more users meant a smarter product, not just more load.
User-obsessed technologist: you know that great architecture comes from understanding the problem deeply. You want to talk to users, not just read tickets. You get curious about why people behave the way they do.
Builder, not just manager: you’re happiest when you’re deep in the code. Leadership means building alongside your team, not overseeing from a distance.
Pragmatic architect: you can design for the long term vision while shipping in weeks. You choose “good enough now” over “perfect eventually”.
Data-minded: you understand that the right data infrastructure enables everything. You’ve thought about what to track, how to label outcomes, how to learn from users at scale.
Clear communicator: you can explain technical decisions to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Specific experience:

  • BSc/MSc in Computer Science (or equivalent experience) and 5-8 years in software engineering with technical leadership.
  • Led or mentored a small engineering team (3-6 people).
  • Built data-intensive products: you understand instrumentation, pipelines, feedback loops.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern development practices.
  • Python proficiency; web/mobile development experience (Flutter/TypeScript a plus).
  • Consumer product experience strongly preferred: you’ve built for real people, not just APIs.
  • English fluent (required). Dutch strongly preferred: our users and partners are primarily Dutch speaking.

What we offer

  • Location: The Hague, 3+ days/week in office. You need to feel the problem to build the right solution. Remote won’t work.
  • Hours: 36 hours/week, flexible. We protect focus time.
  • Compensation: Startup salary, pension, equity. You won’t get rich on day one, but you’ll own what you build 😉
  • Culture: Small team, real ownership. We fail forward. Dogs and kids welcome at the office.
  • Green commuting: We pay for bike, tram, or train. Cars are for special missions only.
  • As we scale, this role can evolve into CTO if that’s your ambition.
  • Start date: April 1, 2026

About Go Potty®

We started as a social enterprise with a clear mission: reduce the time children spend in diapers. Better for kids, better for the planet. That mission hasn’t changed, but our ambition has grown.

We’ve built something that works: 50,000 families, research validated methods, real traction. Now we’re building what comes next: a system that learns from every family and gets smarter over time. Potty training is the starting point. The architecture will extend to every parenting challenge:  sleep, eating, emotional regulation. Same underlying problem, same learning infrastructure.

We’re looking for someone who feels our current mission and sees the bigger opportunity. See www.gopottynow.com/working-at for more info about our team and how we work.

Will you join our mission?

Send your resume and tell us about something you built where the system got smarter over time and how your understanding of users shaped what you built to elianne@gopottynow.com

Tech Lead / CTO 💩

Ready to lead technical innovation in parenting and sustainability? Join our mission driven startup as we scale our engineering team and venture into AI/ML!

What will you do?

We’re scaling from 1 to 6+ engineers and building a comprehensive AI/ML-powered platform with behavioral prediction models, an EU-hosted chatbot, multilingual communication, and privacy-first infrastructure.

    • Own architecture for our Flutter app, Firebase backend, analytics, ML/AI systems, and multi-tenant B2B/B2C platform.
    • Build GDPR compliant systems: encryption, data governance, privacy-by-design across all features.
    • Execute our ML/AI roadmap: behavioral models, EU-based LLM integration, chatbot fine-tuning, and MLOps deployment.
    • Implement experimentation infrastructure: A/B testing, analytics pipelines, data-driven decisions.
    • Recruit, onboard and mentor a Data Scientist, ML Engineer, two Software Developers, UX/UI designer, and Behavioral Scientist.
    • Stay hands-on (40-50% coding): review code, pair program, debug alongside your team.
    • Partner with CEO: translate vision into roadmaps, advise on tradeoffs, ensure subsidy compliance.

What we’re looking for

    • BSc or MSc Computer Science degree (or relevant experience).
    • 7-10 years in software engineering with technical leadership experience; led or mentored a small team (3-6 people).
    • Production ML/AI experience: built predictive models, integrated LLMs (EU-based providers preferred), or deployed MLOps pipelines.
    • Full-stack capabilities: Python + modern web/mobile development (Flutter/TypeScript/Firebase a plus), cloud infrastructure, API design.
    • Experience with product analytics, A/B testing, multi-tenant architectures, or real-time communication systems. You don’t need all of these, but familiarity with several is valuable.
    • Strong GDPR/privacy expertise: privacy-by-design, encryption, data governance.
    • Strong communicator: explain technical decisions to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Pragmatic decision maker: you balance innovation with startup constraints and choose “good enough” over “perfect.”
    • Based in commutable distance from The Hague (remote won’t work for this role).
    • Nice to have: behavioral science tech, multilingual platforms, early-stage startup experience, Dutch language skills.

What we offer

    • A fulltime position (36 hours per week).
    • Hybrid working (from our office in The Hague minimum 3 days p/week and from home as needed).
    • Lead the technical direction of our fast-growing startup where you’ll truly make an impact.
    • Significant freedom and autonomy to make architectural and hiring decisions.
    • A competitive salary including pension scheme and stock options (note: you won’t earn the absolute most, but you will make the world a little better and collaborate with a super fun team 😉).
    • Start date: February 1, 2026.
