Potty training can be an overwhelming and confusing process for parents. With so many methods available, it’s hard to know which potty training method to trust and follow. In this blog, we will introduce the two main scientific methods of potty training, Brazelton’s and Azrin and Foxx’s, and help you determine which approach will work best for you and your child.
Brazelton’s Potty Training Method
Developed in 1962, Brazelton’s method is slow, systematic, and child-oriented. This approach allows children to get familiar and comfortable with the potty and to learn at their own pace. Parents who prefer a more gradual approach and believe their child needs more time to adjust and cooperate may find this method to be a good fit.
Foxx & Azrin’s Potty Training Method
Foxx & Azrin’s method, developed in 1973, is intensive and structured. Training only takes a day or a couple of hours, and a special “training area” is prepared. Different techniques, including conditioning and reinforcements, are used to achieve the desired behavior. Parents who prefer a quicker approach and believe that fast training will work well for both them and their child may find this method to be a better fit.
